Default muffler replace

I have a 1997 f150 4.6l It has dual exhaust from muffler back. My son let the exhaust pipe on drivers side fall off which ripped the muffler where pipe joined muffler and he threw away pipe. My question is. Can i replace the single in dual out muffler with a single in single out muffler? Was even thinking of just deleting muffler and putting straight pipe there. I was surprised how much quieter engine is with muffler removed. I just want to get rid of truck. I think it will be ok any thoughts?

Decided on straight pipe. i noticed torn old muffler had no guts. So will not make a lot of difference
Also found out they want $190 to put in 30 " straight pipe. Gonna do it myself for about $35. Just want to get rid of truck. It runs good just don't need 2 trucks.

I had the stock set up on my 97, I chopped the stock muffler off and put in a Flowmaster FlowFX 2.5" offset. Sounds great.
