Default Muffler compatiblity

What type of muffler could I use for my 97 f150 all info is in my sig, it is an extended cab, I looked one up on AutoZone.com and it was 122 bucks, I have read about Flowmaster but the muffler pictured on autozone is round, all the Flowmaster mufflers I see are oval like, what would be the best muffler for a decent price, any links or suggestions would be helpful, I got a ticket today for running my two cats and straight pipe, I didn't think it was that loud but I live in a smaller community so this stuff is less tolerated. Thanks in advance.

Where in Michigan do you live? I live in the U.P. and my truck is loud as hell.

I live in southern Michigan, down by the Michigan/Ohio/Indiana line. Hillsdale. You guys get a lot of snow so far this year, I used to go snowmobiling up in Iron Mountain.

My girl friend lives in iron mountain. I live about 20 miles south of iron mountain. We had a little bit of snow, then we got hit with some rain which melted all the snow. Now it is all ice and about -15. I put on about 500 miles on the sled this year but had to park it until we get some more snow. I usually ride my sled to work in the winter and the quad in the summer, only work about 3 miles from home and my parents house is about 5 miles from my house so I never need to waste the gas in my truck.

As for your exhaust issues, are you replacing everything or just putting on mufflers? They have some decent cat back flow master kits on ebay for a decent price.

I love Iron Mountain, me and my girlfriend were going to move there then the economy crashed so we didn't want to take the chance.

I need to get a muffler the rest of the exhaust is all new, which means I have to cut out some of the new pipe to install a muffler, do you have a link for the flowmasters on ebay? Thats what I really want to get, I still want that tough sound but less loud.

Do you have true dual pipes?

If that link doesnt work just type in "f150 exhaust" at ebay ( without the quotations)

Pretty much any muffler with a 2 1/2 inch inlet and outlet will work, the shape doesn't really matter.

Flowmasters sound really nice and have a deep tone, but I think they're pricy. I am planning on picking up a Thrush welded from Advance Auto for $27 and they are pretty much the same thing as a flowmaster 40 series.

I was thinking about doing the thrush weld when I replace my mufflers in the spring.

Thrush Welded are pretty much the exact same as the flowmaster 40s. And they are a hell of a lot cheaper.
