I have a 1998 f-150 with the 4.6 liter v8. I have all stock pipes and muffler and I want it to sound louder and manly. Would putting an aftermarket flowmaster muffler make it louder? I don't want to spend the money on the whole system. So would just putting an aftermarket muffler help? If so, which one would be the loudest?

 

Yes, it would make it louder.

Dynomax bullet, flowmaster 10, magnaflow 11", magnapacks, pipe instead of muffler are all relatively loud.

 

I agree, glasspack mufflers or straight pipe will be the loudest and cheapest rather than buying a muffler.

 

I have a 97 with the 4.6 as well with all stock exhaust. Today I'm cutting my muffler off and welding a piece of pipe in. I'll let you know how it sounds!

IMO glasspacks give too much of a rasp/cackle. Ford's sound awesome with straight pipe

 

I just did a muffler swap this Monday to a 4x14 magnapack. It has a nice deep tone when accelerating, but when cruising you cant even tell its there. Its knda quite in my opinion but hopefully once it breaks in it will be louder. The whole setup only cost about 90$ too because I reused the old tailpipe and intermediate pipe, plus I still haven't got a tip.
