Default mud in the tran pan!

Checked the tranny fluid today cuz there is a slow leak from the front seal, dont have the time or extra vehicle to tackle the project of replacing the seal right now so i have been adding fluid occasionally. anyways checked it and pretty sure there was mud on the bottom of the dipstick. Does that sound right? that muddy water could have gotten in the tranny from the front seal? or anywhere else for that matter. i will be changing the filter and gasket this weekend and probably getting a ride to work. if that sounds correct or have any input on the subject that would be great thanks.

Your profile picture shows mud on the paint. If you played off road in the mud you may have sucked up some water into the tranny through the breather tube. Usually when that happens the transmission fails quickly thereafter.

Yes it can leak in from several areas if submerged. Change fluid and filter. DO NOT HAVE IT FLUSHED! Only drain and filter change. Then keep a regular check on it.

^ yes just drain, change filter, and fill up with new fluid. it won't get all of the fluid but it will be good enough. If the tranny hasn't been regularly flushed every 30,000 miles DO NOT start flushing it now. it will likely just break some crap loose and clog a valve, not good.
