mounting a tach
Hello all I'm new here. I just bought a 2002f150 xl with a 4.6 5 speed. The truck is imaculate and I love it, but it doesn't have a tach in it. I was told by the local ford garage I can't put a factory tach cluster out of an xlt in it. autometer has a gauge pod for the top of the column 15004 but there are three different photos of it . One has the gauge on the driver side and has the small hole for the key release, one is the same as that but has the big hole for the auto column shifter, and one has the tach on the pass side for automatic. Does anyone know which of these the 15004 is? Also, are there any other ways people are mounting tachs? Thanks in advance.

I always liked the outside hood mounted Tachs used on muscle cars. Out of the way, and yet right in front of your face. You have to drill a hole in the hood and that's never a good thing. I have also seen a truck with an after market tach that was color digital in a plastic rectangle housing and stuck on the dash with double sided tape. It worked great and was real easy to read while driving since it went from green led's, to yellow led's, and then red led's like a bar graph sideways. Like the tach in the Corvettes.
Other than that, I THINK right side of steering column is the proper place.
