Default Motorcraft spark plug compatibility

Hey y'all,

I just ordered some new ignition coils for 2002 F150 4.6 5 speed off of eBay (the classic $80 for one from Ford vs. $120 for all 8 from China dilemma ) and it appears as though they come with 8 Motorcraft spark plugs as well.. The part # is SP 479, and the chart on the eBay sellers website shows them being compatible with my 4.6, but the local Ford dealership says the correct part # for my truck is SP 493..

Just wondering if anyone knows if the SP 479's will work with F150 Romeo 4.6 2V? Thanks everyone.

Cheers

That's a scam which has been around for 8 or 9 years now. It use to be real bad. You would get 8 junk coils (correct part# CR DG508, but knockoffs) and the wrong spark plugs..seriously. Guys had to take the plugs up town to Orielys (was Murrays back then) and hope they would swap them for correct plugs. That was sole dependent on the merchant.

Yea, SP413 AND SP493 are for the 4sixes. One is nickle plated, the other a single plat.

SP479, - AFAIK are a nickle plated plug for the 5fours.

I guess they are still scamming people. Good luck attempting to return, that can turn into a hassle as well. Not anything about these deals are any good. The word "deal", yea wrong word for something like this.

Motrcraft plugs are pre gapped, since gapping is bad for a plug, - weakens it. Sometimes you may have to..if you drop one.

Shoot, I'd read most everywhere that people bought these coils and they'd last a decently long time.. At least 40-50k miles and then it wouldn't be half as bad to replace a few again

Thanks buddy, I'll post up when they get here and say whether they're working or not.. Hoping for the best!

If not, then a trio straight to the Motorcraft store is in the books

It's cheaper to use Visteon, IF you can find them. They use the same Ford spec build magnets and thermal protection. Usually sold by Alanisdeals, an eBay store. They run out them tho. so you need to keep an eye pealed. When they get them, they go fast and @ 180 a set, it's a affordable way to get new Motorcrafts. Not one failure yet in the last 5 years or so...from anyone.

Ok, thanks for the heads up on that.. Just checked out their site. How do you tell if the coils are Visteon or just the regular knockoffs?
