I feel like that's a question best asked on an Explorer forum.

Unless you're just trying to toss the engine in the trunk and not worry about whether it'll run or not. You can put lots of stuff in the Explorer.

That yr. exploder came with a 4.6 from the factory....
You will need to change harnesses and computers too.
Most stuff should be available thru some scrap yards.

The trans for a 4.0 will not fit a 4.6, as they have a different bellhousing - and I am pretty sure all of the 4.6 Explorer's were 3V's. You don't specify which motor you are wanting to use.

This idea/project has "money pit" written all over it.

Its a lot easier to sell the one you have now and just buy a 4.6 Explorer, A CRAZY amount easier, they aren't expensive, you'll love the new one just as much or more as your old one.
