mild rod knock
I recently purchased a 1997 base model F150 4.2L 5spd 2whl drive for 500.00
I love the truck but I have been fixing crap on it since I got it. I did a tune up oil change that included air, oil and fuel filters plugs serpentine belt and oil of course, fixed a broken side mirror, the front stabilizer bushings were completely gone and it was just rattling around so i put a repair kit in, now I have a mild knocking sound coming from the engine. my question is if I change the main and rod bearings will that be enough to fix the problem? it has 112k miles and the heads were done about 3 years ago, also is there anything I can do in the meantime an additive perhaps that can give me a little more life out of it before I can get to pulling the motor, I have a 92 ranger with low to no oil pressure and I need to pull that motor to fix it and until thats on the road I need the F150 for work. any help would be great
