Default manual trans

i have a 98 f150 with 4.2 v6 and 5 spd manual, does anyone know if the 4.6 v8 will bolt up to this tranny

Nope.

You'd need an M5OD that came from a 4.6. Your current M5OD will only bolt up to the 4.2.

I don't know about lengths, etc. but the 4.2 shares the same bell housing pattern as the Windsor 5.0/302, 5.8/351. Like I say though, input shaft lengths, etc. may not be the same.
