Default Major Brake Issues!

I am having a big problem with my 1998 F150's brakes. First, it would not shift out of park. I thought it was the brake switch on the pedal so I replaced it. No dice. While researching the problem, I remembered reading that it could be a 15 amp fuse in number 13 spot in the fuse panel. Sure enough, it was blown. Of course, I didn't have a 15 amp fuse handy. I put a 20 amp fuse in to see if I had brake lights. I now had brake lights! Little did I know, I also had smoke rolling out from under the hood. I quickly pulled the fuse back out. The connector that connects to the power brake booster was about half melted.

I don't know if the connector had any previous damage or not. I got a 15 amp fuse and put it in. More smoke! It looks like just the outside part that the connector snaps into is damaged. It could be damaged inside. Any ideas what the heck to do now or what caused the initial problem?

Are you talking about the connector that plugs in the front of the master cylinder. If so you should have received a recall notice of fire hazard. They call it the cruise control deactivation switch. Just had mine replaced under recall notice. Took dealer 5 minutes to unplug that and plug in a harness and zip tie to the accelerator cable. Call your dealership and give them your vin. Mine is a 97. They can also tell you if you have anymore outstanding recalls.

Sounds like the cruise control sensor in the master cylinder has started leaking brake fluid. Your very lucky the whole truck didn't go up in flames.
