Ok where do we start ??? You got 3.55......That is probably the best gear for you!!!!!!.......You do live in the valley.....So I'm guessing you do most of your driving there!!
3.55 gives you some torque for pulling power (trailer & any occasional mountain driving that you would do...........It also should give you a pretty good fuel mileage for the highway...& is probably the best all round gear for you !! Matched of course with the stock tire size which you now have.....Depending on what & how much you do in the hills & mountains you could go to 3.73 gears (personally I wouldn't go any lower than that....Judging by what you have said over the last few months your problem is solved.... You have spent considerable time & money on a used vehicle with higher mileage...... (that is your choice how much you spend)... I just don't think it would be worth it if say you only drive the Cocqahalla a few times a year (3-10 times a year even 20)...
I have driven the Cocq from Ontario to Mission & Abbottsford twice now with my 02 4.6 with 3.55 gears & I thought it did a fantastic all round job...Remember if you do the bulk of your driving in the valley you will suffer slightly in Highway fuel mileage if you go to 3.73 gears!! You can't have both... 1side of the equation will suffer..

Maco what is your suggestion? Maybe 4.10 or 3.73 should be fine? I would like to run those 285

If you want to run the 285/75-16's, then 4.10's would be the suggested gear to take you just about back to the same as 3.55 with stock tires.

I calculated that. But like Maco said is nice $$ for put in. Is 4x4 and nice work to do re-gears. I will stay on stock sizes have a nice power now and drive so nice.
Thank you guys

Personally I wouldn't change anything from stock..........unless you are doing a considerable amount of mountain driving....
How much are you doing??? Even if doing 50/50 mountain driving it would still be your decision to change that rear end out!!
Then I would only go the 3.73 with stock tires.....
You said you put on the stock size tires & your performance came back; that's understandable....So now you want to mess with it??
Did you price a used rear end locally....I bet 4.10 would be very hard to find & very pricey also out there!!!
I think you said you had 8.8 rear end......so I'm thinking complete new gears to change to 4.10...
Last year I priced a used rear spring for a 08 ranger for my niece & that auto wrecker in Abbotsford (south of TC-1) wanted over $200. for 1 spring. (same $ from 4-5 others nearby....that spring in Ontario sells for $60. each from 60 auto wreckers all within 1 hr. away....what colour would you like??

That is true. Here is everything little expensive. I decide everything on stock size 245/70/17 . But sticker on driver side said 265/70/17 . Maybe take again that size and that’s is. I use hills and off-roading. Anyway 285 is just showing up in case with my truck .

Because you are 1 size smaller (from experience that your speedo is reading) it is reading not quite 2km per hour faster than what you are actually going.....It is also giving you a bit more bite to get up & go but you won't measure the difference.....
