I have a 98 4.6l, pulled the maf to see if it needed cleaning which it did, used maf sensor cleaner, upon inspecting the housing it sits in I noticed that the passageway that the air enters to pass over the sensor wires has a flat cover on the opposite side with 2 tamper torx holding it on, was just wondering if this cover has to be there? I only ask because it seems like the air would flow better if it didn't have to pass through 2 90 degree bends. Is this the case or am I wrong? I realize that the maf is a crucial sensor in the vehicle and that any changes can have big implications to my truck.
