Lowering
Truck is now driveable and somewhat decent. Now is the time to drop the truck to a decent height.
Front has a 5inch gap while the rear has 7inches. I’ve narrowed my choices to either
DJM -> http://djmsuspension.com/product/djm3097-24/ and
AmericanTrucks -> https://www.americantrucks.com/max-trac-2-front-4-rear-lowering-kit-9703-2wd.html
Im planning on just doing a 2” drop for the front and 4” drop for the rear.
Questions:
1. Do I really need to replace the shocks with shorter shocks? Shocks on the truck is less than a year old
2. Are these 2 good options?
Any suggestions are welcome

Yes, you need new shocks. When you lower it with the kit, it changes the distance between the shock mounts (makes it shorter).
If you do not change them, the shocks will have no travel to compress, and you will break something, as well as the ride being horrible.
No idea on the quality of either kit, go to some Lightning specific forums for good info on lowering these trucks.
Everybody here either lift the trucks or just levels them. Very few drop them here.

I just lowered my '02 RCSB XLT with 5.4L. To get 2" in the front and 4" drop in the rear I did the following
1. Front - Cut ONE complete coil (top coil toward frame), kept the isolator, cut the lower snubber a 1/2" and installed KYB 565004 MonoMax shocks.
2. Rear - Installed TopGun Customs PN 42175 front spring hangers and rear shackles (w/ shackles at longest position) and installed KYB 565010 MonoMax shocks.
That's what it took and mine was also tree-top tall. Looks and handles great and still rides ok
