Default Loose steering

2003 F150 5.4. New Michelins, front alignment, idler arm. Thought the new tires would make a difference. Not at all. Ford shop said everything was good. If I tighten the screw on the steering box will that help? 2 WD, 108,000 miles.

How long have you had the truck? My Expedition and my F150 are both a little too responsive. I'd rather have to put at least a little effort into the steering.I'm not sure if that's your problem or not. If so, it is fine, but I don't like it either. Exped was a '97 and F150 is a '02.

You can do that, but most guys turn the heck out of it and it binds the system. If you take it at an eighth turn clockwise and try it. If it is better but not great, try another 1/8 turn. If it gets tight before you get to the eighth, STOP. You can't go farther. You have to back it off a tad, so it doesn't bind the worm gear. Don't go big all at once, or you can damage the meshing and really wear the gears out quickly. Been there, done that as a teenager. If you go a full turn or more, the box most likely needs replacing.

Thanks for the input. I've had the truck since new.bit has 108000 miles. Have done all the recommended services at the Ford house by the book. The Michelins I had on it had 60,000 miles. I thought that might be the problem, so I put on a new set of Michelins. Same ol wandering. I'll tighten the gear box like you said.
