I have 2 Alaskan 1998 F150's and neither truck is rusted. We used to salt our roads and trucks rusted in 2 years. Now we don't and anything after 96 or so is basically rust free, unless you are in a coastal area. Southern US areas, West Coast, Florida, all have nice trucks without rust. I'm not familiar with the East Coast, but do see a lot of older clean vehicles in CT and MA, so it may be a good source also.
Thanks for all the great advice everyone! I drove down to Portland a few days ago to take a look at the things people have mentioned. Everything checked out, so I brought her home for good! I had a 190mi drive back to get a feel for how it drives, and so far so good. I also got better mpg than my 2011 Dakota with the 4.7L V8 lol (16.4 mpg)
I only have the dealer pic right now but will get some others up soon. I have a lot to do!
The rear diff has been painted or touched up...doesn't matter, looks good. Check out the lower radiator supports, then move down under the cab. Rust begins right at front below the firewall just at the surface before settling in rockers to dork and raise their rust bastids.
