Long time no see :)
Wellllll... I have been to a lot of other forums in the past few months... But I had to re-download this one (far better community here)
Hoping at least somebody here has some knowledge in the field of f250s to help me out (I remember quite a few of you also had them)
Ok; so, I was hoping that somebody could help me decide buy or hold on this truck...
It is NO rust as far as I can see..
170k miles
4x4
5.4
Early 99
4.10 Limited slip (c2)
One owner
Truck feels like a dead weight when I gun it... Not like it's broken.. Just sluggish?
Clean underside.
XLT... Soo it's got power seats and power locks/windows.
Recently rebuilt head gasket. Was leaking / mixing.
Also... The trim on it... Never seen it; was it a package?
He started on 6500.. I started at 3500. We are at 4700.
I'm used to a 2002 f150 4.6.. But this truck feels even more sluggish.
Any help/info/advice is welcome! (I know it's a 250)

I would love to have an F250 to compliment my F150. I don't know enough about engines to help you out, but if you're serious about buying it take it to a mechanic and have them look it over for you. Seems like a low price to me, but even if you invested some money into it you might have a great truck. The more handy you are with tools and wrenching trucks the better off you are with project trucks and saving $$$$

That's the part with this 250.. I don't think it's gonna be much of a project.
My f150 had a serious case of rust issues (cosmetically) and I had to bail.. I got sick of trying to fix it.
I'm taking it to my mechanic hopefully once the rain stops..
Was just looking for things I could point out to him to double check; since he isn't a ford guy and is a GMC guy.

You've got a much heavier truck with a not much bigger engine than your F-150. Every 5.4 F-250 I've been in has felt like a level 8 gutless wonder. That's just part of it with that small V8 in there. I personally would rather have a 7.3 or V10 in that truck to consider it. I'm sure it'd be ok daily driving, but be pretty weak with a trailer on. As for that trim at the bottom, that's the aftermarket grandpa package, rip it all off.

My daily drive isn't to bad; only about 5 miles.. The truck did fine when I test drove it for that.
As far as it being old man trim... Well I am buying it from a old man lol
As for towing; I'm sure it would do fine towing our two snowmobiles fine. Doesn't seen THAT bad.
He said it's a gas hog to the extreme.

Talked to him again today in person.. He wasn't moving from the 4700. I threw 4000 number at him.. Showed interest.. Still wasn't moving though. Talked a few more minutes; said no more haggling; 4200 cash pending my mechanics inspection.. He said he will sleep on it tonight.. I'll see him early tmrw.

I wouldn't do it man. Seems like a downgrade from your fx4 scab man. I mean you going to a truck with worse mileage, slower, no more towing capabilities, and less room. I think I would keep the fx4 man it's not a bad truck.

I wouldn't do it. Gutless, and such horrible fuel mileage. It'd be one thing if it had some *****, but they don't. But, I will say the ones I've been around are pretty reliable
