Today when I went to work this morning and backing out of my driveway, my truck would not reverse at first. After turning the truck on and letting it sit for a minute I put it in reverse, moved back about a foot and then the truck just stopped. Felt like I had a block behind the rear tires preventing me from moving. The engine rev'd but didn't move. I got out to check to see if I was running into anything but I was not. I tried this 2 more times and didn't move. Finally on the 3rd time I gave it more gas and I heard something pop/ bang like I broke something free and I was good to go moving backwards.

Anyone have any idea what happened? I check my fluids and everything was good. Nothing unusual sounding or looking from under the truck either. This happened one other time about 5 months ago before I changed my brakes and found out that my emergency brake was locked up.

I have a 5.4 lariat 4WD

 

You probably broke the parking brake shoes

 

Yea the parking brake doesn't work anymore.
