Default In-Line Transmission Filter

There is an in-line filter out near the front of the truck, in the cooling lines, that has a Ford trademark on it althought it was manufactured in Aussie land. 97 V-6 F-150. Is the filter stock? My problem is the the truck seems to jump onto gear both forward and reverse. I see some leaks at the filter and the rubber lines look very bad and I assume that this filter has been there along long time and may be clogged. Can I just remove and bypass this filter, if so what size and type of rubber tubing do I need?

Looks like an in-line fuel filter. Would not be able to gather all the verbige without breaking the connecting lines

Any reason not to remove this filter? It has a small leak and the connecting lines look shot.

I ask the parts guy awhile back and got the deer in the headlights stare from him. At the time I did not know it was a ford part. I don't see why it can't just be removed since it does not seem to be an OEM part?
