Default Lights stay on

2001 F150 crew cab NO DAY LIGHTs

My F150 lights stay on all the time, have to pull neg battery cable so battery wont run down. hear a clicking noise under dash (relay) I have pulled all fuses and relays under hood with no success. any help would be appreciated. Called ford in Athens Ga, parts dept said they never heard such. Internet is full of them most are saying DTL's but I do not have.
Also, the light switch works when off just head lights are on, when switch is on all lights work, tail, head and fog lights.

Just got off phone with Ford dealer in Augusta, they said it is common for the f150 windshield to leak on the fuse panel and corrode the connectors, will check it out later and see if this might be it.

i would like to advise you that these model F150 were NOTORIOUS for windshield leaks causing water to leak in and drip onto the fusebox and the attached GEM module causing multiple accessory faults. I almost though this was the reason you were removing it, but while you are in the location, inspect the fusebox and GEM housings as well as the dash frame around and above them for signs of water intrusion, if there is any evidence, please reseal the windshield. You can use a good silicone rubber/sealant for this

Somewhere buried in here is the GEM how-to that shows everything. If you search for either "GEM" or "General Electronics Module", there's tons of threads.

My '02 windshield was so bad that I could actually push the top left (drivers side) out about 2" with my hand. Water runs down the a-pillar and onto the GEM which is located under the dash at the drivers kick panel. It's a perfect path. I replaced the windshield, pulled the GEM and dried it, applied di-electric grease on the entire contact surface and viola. No more crazy door locks.

We are all very well versed on the windshield leaks / GEM issues, LOL. In fact, I've got a good fix for you if that winds up being your issue.

BUT!!

Is there anything else going on though? Usually when the GEM gets wet, you've got lights flashing on the cluster, 4X4 clicking on and off, power window failure, motor turning over on its own.... gremlins. Headlights staying on is a symptom I never heard of yet.

Once in a great while my heads will do that..just for a moment. Play with the switch and they shut off. I fixed all the leaks in the 98 a few years back. It leaked at the cab seam overlaps. Ford used a caulk at seams between the spot welds. Made a mote out of plumbers putty to determine the the intrusion point. I fully welded the seams. The seams are directly in front of the window. But the lights staying on for a sec happened after that repair so....the truck is garaged, never sits outside in the rain. About 10 years ago it would try to start while washing it, right after soaping up the front window on the drivers side. Cranked over by the time I soaped up the passenger side lol. Just for sec then quick. It hasn't done that again for a decade or so. With mine, water has to hit that A-Pillar just right it seems. I haven't caught that leak yet, no signs. Ford uses a product called "window weld" to fix them now...that's the latest product I've heard used when resealing the windshield.

But it was seams with my 98 that leaked bad, - the overlaps just in front of the window drivers side. Passenger side took in water there as well, but it didn't make into the cab like the drivers. Also, you can't get to the overlaps without removing the fenders.

please tell me your fix, now that you mention, I believe this GEM is the problem. I get a clicking noise under dash and the 4x4 quit working. This will be my first attemp in fixing but need to know what to use and where to put it. thanks

Thanks are you saying that it leaks around the window. do you think you need to reinstall and seal the window? do you have instructions on exactly how to seal or fix?

Yes. The windshield is the cause for GEM failures. Just for grins, sir in your truck and push on the top left corner of your windshield. I found mine could be pushed out at least 2" by hardly any effort.
