One of my buddys is lookin at getting a lightning w/ his enrollment check in the military but he loves standards and we were both wondering if anybody knew why ford never offered the Lightning w/ a standard transmission? and also if anyone knows of any places that do make a standard tranny for the Ford Lightnings? thanks

 

Does he want a 6 or a 5 speed? If six go with a borg warner T-56. If 5 speed stick with tremic 3650 will hold if he doesn't up the boost above about 14 pounds. The reason that they wouldn't sell it is a mystery to me, but chevy won't put a standard behind a 5.3 either.
