Default Let's talk about injectors

So I was skimming another thread earlier and somebody mentioned that they replaced their injectors and saw an immediate difference in power, My truck is sitting at 243k and to the best of my knowledge, 7 are original (1 went bad and I replaced it with one from a junkyard). Is there any recommendation on how often injectors might need to be replaced?

Ive replaced zero of mine, at 260k. Runs fine.
had mine power cleaned at 185k. Zero difference then too.

Some say it made a difference for them. maybe. Likely smoother at idle due to more balanced.

But honestly, injectors dont necessarilly ever need replacing . But then again, they might. Worth the $$? Likely not unless had bad ones.

Your not going to get more power. Unless have real bad injector messing up a bank. Total fuel/air on a bank is controlled by o2 sensor. You dont really get any more with new injectors, at least not noticeable , unless something was pretty bad. Running 1 cyl rich and rest lean or such. Evenly worn injectors are compensated by o2 sensor, and run as fine as brand new. A few percent variation and power less than optimum would be very difficult to discern by feel. Wind would make a bigger difference most likely.

Most of the "more power" feedback on things is in peoples head. Like the guys that think they have more power with open exhaust because its louder, (and they really have less.)

If it really has more power, show some before/after dyno numbers. Anything else is just talk.

208,000 on original injectors. If it starts running a little rough I add a bottle of Techron. Maybe in my head, but I've seen it work on the old throttle body injectors. Just did it and truck is scary smooth and responsive.

Yea your way over IMO. About 150,000 miles they should be swapped w/rebuilds/refurbs. Don't just send them out for cleaning. Pull the filters w/cork screw and you'll see why. The filters go bad, develop yellowish hard spots obstructing flow. Injector cleaner (snake oil), among other things can bridge the plugs creating ignition problems. Too many nasty's using that stuff and for nothing in return. You could take it in for a BG Service, dealerships offer it. But seriously, petrol itself has all the cleaners you need, it's in the mix. Personally, I waited to 185,000 miles and kicked myself for waiting that long. The truck went from a slug to feeling light and quick.....night and day. Avoid those fantasy in a bottle posts...it's all they are. Doing the job correctly is affordable anyway. The refurbs are like new. New filters, pintle and integrity checked.

I sent the injectors for my SHO to a guy that tested them, then cleaned, installed new filters and other parts, and re-tested them. They weren't too bad at 100,000 miles, but I ended up with about 5% overall improvement in flow, and the difference between the two injectors at the extremes was cut in half.

Can't say I could feel a difference when the intake runners opened up and she pushed towards the heavens (5% isn't much), but idle was lots smoother.

At 243k with never touching them, I would have been looking at 10-15% flow loss if degradation continued at the same rate. I'd say I would definitely notice that. If you are going to keep the truck, even if just until 300k, I'd say dealing with your injectors would be a good idea.
