Here is one that at the very end, they figured it out. lol I didn't post on that one, but yes was the answer from the beginning. If the box is coded on an XLT or Lariat, the wire is in the door, ready to accept the controller on the handle. The XL could have it if it was ordered with theft/pw/pdl as a separate order and not in a package back then. The Gen 10's were an experiment in a way, and it worked. lol Now when you buy a truck it is all in package codes, and hard to buy as separate items unless special ordered to a fleet or such. All cookie cutter packages anymore. No individualism from the mfgrs.

Nice find! I was unaware you could do that. Also happened to be unaware I could program my own code...

Mine kept losing my own code
Eventually went back to using only oem code

The factory code can be changed in forscan or by dealer as well, which might want to do when buying used. And reprogram keys.

I did not know that you could have the dealer change factory code. To my knowledge the only way to change the factory code was to change the RKE module.

It is very simple to do, there are YouTube videos on how to do it, or it is in the owners manual, and I believe the Chilton repair book as well.

You will always be able to use your factory code, even after programming your own personal code.

This is going to make me pull my door panel off today. I haven't noticed an open connector but haven't been looking either.

I think I found this thread while searching, but it does not clearly state that you can, or cannot, add a keypad to a vehicle that does not have one from the factory.

Its kind of hidden behind the front door speaker. If you take the panel off and take the speaker out you should find a green female plug with a grey plug cover on it. Although you should keep in mind that you can have RKE added to the truck aftermarket, and function, but not be factory installed. If it was installed by the factory it's all there and ready to go.

Good luck!

I should be good to go. I looked under the dash and the module is there with the code on it. I'll hit a salvage yard to pick up the handle and keypad.
