keyless antitheft module any one??
The key is programmed to the PATS module. The dealership needs to program your keys to your new module. You could probably pull one from a junkyard and have it programmed by the dealership.
It is expensive. I used to do it at a Ford dealership. You plug a laptop (with a $10,000 program on it) into the OBD2 plug, select PATS, select Program, hit enter, the program has a timed 5 minute wait (I think it was 5...maybe it is 30
) then you are in; program your keys in 30 seconds and your done.
Depending on what you're going for and how bad your module is, you do have the option on the laptop to "disable PATS functions" after the timed wait. Then you can use $3 keys that you can get cut anywhere, no programming required. If I had PATS I would get it disabled right away because keys are cheaper, I live in a low crime area, and I'm not worried about my truck getting stolen.
Hope this helps.
