Do you by chance have ForScan? I'm pretty sure the PC version will program PATS keys.
I do have this OBD ll scan tool, I haven't used it yet, as I found the problem(spark plug wire) before it got delivered. I have the android app for it, perhaps the forscan app you mentioned might work with my existing OBDII.

Not a chinese clone.

Some chinese keys have failed to program in pats, although they might program fine as a clone.

Make sure both keys are original to pat's, and not clone.

I have a spare oem in package if interested. I'll sell it for less than ebay.... I was going to program it when wanted remote start, but wife found extra key missing for 3 yrs in her camera case.

And so the saga continues. I bought an OEM key with the Ford logo and the "S" on the shank of the key. Programming failed, I was afraid at one point that I may have lost the programming of the 2 original keys. I speculate that the reason for the failure was that my 2 originals were clones...?

Any ideas?

If your two originals are clones, then yes - that won't work. You need to present two distinct PATS keys that are already in the system in order to add new keys using the factory procedure. Forscan will work as long as you have two functional PATS keys because you're deleting everything out of the system and starting fresh. Ignore any cloned keys and just store the ones that are distinct.

I've gone 'round and 'round with trying to get additional keys programmed to my '03, and I've come to the conclusion that one of my two keys must be a cloned key. With Forscan, you can wipe *all* the keys from the system and start over, programming them all as new. At least that's the way it's *supposed* to work. I haven't had the guts to try it myself. If/when I do, it may be in the parking lot of the ford dealer so I can have them program it if I flub it up.

Yeah, I hear ya on that. Maybe consulting with a good car thief would be a solution, the various security measures manufacturers incorporate into vehicles only seems to impact the vehicle owners.

Yeah, might be time to forget the DYI route, 2 failed keys= $24.98 down the toilet.

Do you have a windows laptop? If so, just grab a decent OBD2 Bluetooth adapter for it and use Forscan to get your keys in the system. No big deal to do.
