Default Issue with replacing front brakes

Did a search and I couldn't find any info on this.

I'm replacing the front brakes on my brothers '99 4x4 4.6 and I'm having issues getting the new pads installed. I can't get the pads to fit in properly with those little clips on the top and bottom of the calipers that hold the pads in. I had to replace them because they were completely rusted and fell apart when I took the old pads out.

I was wondering if those clips are necessary and if they are any tips on getting them to fit properly?

Thanks guys.

Thanks, I got it. The corrosion was just so bad I had to sand down the rust. God forbid he takes care of his truck, lol, save alot of trouble
