Default intermittent no reverse

I have a 2003 supercrew. reverse wont always work it doesnt slip it just acts like its neutral. If i play with going from park to reverse and nuetral to reverse it will eventually go. Once it is engaged it works fine. All forward gears are fine nothing out of the ordinary. I have searched all over the internet and i cant find anything on it. I would bring it in to a shop but i dont have the cash to have it fixed so im hoping it is something i can do on my own. Any help or ideas will be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like something screwy with the valve body.

Have you checked all the linkage,is your truck sometimes in park but the line is in between park and reverse it could be the linkage is stretched.

I havent checked the linkage but i havent noticed anything funny on the indicator. Another detail is the reverse lights still come on when i put it in reverse even if the tranny isnt engaged.

The fluid isn't really low might need a touch the fluid is starting to look old. Does anyone think a fluid change could fix it? I don't want to spend the money on a flush if I'm going to have to tear it apart and waste it.
