On a epic trip and the cruise works sometimes, not always. Anything I should look for that would cause this?

All, plus more, are possible. These are the more common issues.

Speed control disconnect switch
Steering wheel switches
Clockspring
Brake pedal switch
Speed control servo

 

The failure seems to be heat related after re-staring the truck. When starting out cold in the morning it works fine. All features work fine till you shut off the truck or hit the stop button. Restart when warm = no cruise.
