Default Interchange question 97 5.4

So my ol girl at 443,000 miles is looking like it has head gasket problem. It`s a great truck and I`m attached to it so I`m thinking about a used donk. I doesn't`t seem like a great idea to put $ into doing the head gaskets?
So what is the interchange years for the 97 5.4

97-98 direct swap. F150, F250LD or Expy. After that it gets more complicated. There are a number of swap threads on this on this forum. I'm putting an Expy 2004 2v into my 98. It works and there is all the information on here about doing it right the first time. You want to make sure the engine you get is a match for what came out. 6 or 8 bolt flywheels, egr, etc, all come into play with 5.4 swaps.

The 5.4's had a 6 and 8 bolt crank too? I thought being all Windsor's, they'd all be 8 bolt.

Thanks White. You caught me. IT was the convertor holes that made the diff on the 5.4 not the 8 vs 6 bolt mounting. 6 and 8 bolts on the 4.6, but convertor on the 5.4 with 4 or 6 bolt holes. I tripped on my Johnson. lol

According to the parts books, both online and my Ford ones, I show a 4 and a 6 bolt convertor and flywheel available for 5.4. The 7.3 and later Lightnings use them.

Don't forget, those have to be on E40D and 4R100's. Those can't be used in the 4R70's. The OP's 97 has the E40D, so he's got some options.
