Intake Silencer THE TRUTH!!!
So I saw somethin about an intake piece inside the intake elbow on our trucks about a week ago. So I had to go mess around with it on my stock 2002 fx4 5.4 screw.
After I took the elbow out I took a straight screw driver to the flex pipe bonding and pryed it apart VERY SLOWLY! I stress this because it takes a little patience. Then I pryed the bonding between the silencer and the intake housing on both ends. Pulled it out with a pair of pliers and threw it all back together with the silencer out of the intake housing. I also disconnected the battery at the begining of this to reset the computer for any gained air flow.
The results were better throttle response not a whole lot but something noticeable. Also a little bit deeper exhaust tone. About ten miles more per tank. In the end I would do it again for sure.
Just thought I would put somethin up about what you actaully get out of this. It seemed like people were expecting a bit much out of something that costs them nothin but a half hour of their time.

I saw that write up and looked into the gotts mod.. Just got my truck out of the body shop today so I plan on doing the mod.. so is the silencer left in if you do the mod .. if not i can take out the silencer?
I did the Gotts mod and removed my silencer. If you just follow the instructions for the Gotts mod you don't actually remove the silencer. The silencer is in the elbow that connects to the throttle body and the Gotts mod changes out the restrictive piece of the snorkel that attaches to the inside of your fender (the other side of the air filter). The Gotts mod was much easier to do and provided more of an increase in throttle response than removing the silencer, but both are worth it. I didn't actually remove the rubber flex to get the silencer out. I just kept working at it until I had the diameter of the silencer small enough to get it through. Just make sure you don't break your air temp sensor.
