Depends on who makes it. Chinese Chrome parts are generally distorted, and not very good at all.

A friend of mine had a gold one. and it would not seal. He just ended up painting his original cover.

A real popular item for old V8 cars is a chrome water outlet. They never seal.

No. Most are cheap stamped steel and they will never seal properly without a ton of liquid gasket. Look at the old cars, they will usually have gobs of blue or orange hanging out of them.
