You obviously don't have a total understanding of what you just said. Think about it, what does A B S stand for. Then think real hard and long about what you just did.

You should conclude that ABS, if yours worked properly would be a very good thing specially on wet slick roads and worse snow and ice. Like I said before, there hasn't been a whole lot of problems with these systems. Of Ford would have DEFINITELY recalled every one of these trucks and fixed it. Looking at what you did, you put more people and yourself in harms way. Boasting about how great you modification is better for exactly who. It's crazy recklessness on your part. Instead of attempting to re-engineer an already well thought out system that saves lives. I guess you don't understand just how much effort and testing by many groups of people this takes. Safety is the highest priority in automotive engineering. Why in Gods name didn't you just fix what was broke ? You could very well turn a life or death situation into the ladder with such a great mod. Something to be proud about ? Keep to yourself.

That was not an intelligent response. Every sentence of what you wrote is wrongheaded, misses the point and is otherwise spiteful BS. I will not lower myself to get into an online pissy-fit squabble with you.

So it's a pissy fit. Please. You have lowered yourself in a very big way that most in good conscience and common sense would...well, just know better. To have that little regard and respect for human life in unconscionable. You now have much more ability to hurt maim change peoples for the worst who's anywhere in the vicinity of your travels. Controlled braking is asset that has saved countless lives that is now even more advanced because of those statistics. If you think of me low and pissy for pointing that out to you then so be it. Your patting yourself on the back for successfully by-passing a safety feature that can have exactly that much affect on incentive people around you. Sad thing is, it wasn't even close to being necessary and now your trying to get others to follow in your footsteps. It's not pissy btw, -it's ****'ED!

Default ABS pump under HCU has internal leak.

The actual mechanical pump located under the HCU has an internal leak which causes the loss of pressure allowing the pedal to continue to the floor. This has become an issue affecting a great number of these vehicles in their older years and the pumps are not readily available from Ford. They can be purchased at salvage yards and through online used parts websites but those units are 15 years old+ and could put you and your vehicle in great jeopardy to rely upon them. As such, my local Ford dealer mechanic suggested that I bypass the 4 wheel ABS system on my 2001 F-150 just as suggested in this post. I also had a 1997 F-150 many years ago and multiple Ford mechanics suggested I bypass the rear ABS module as they were know to be faulty. No recalls. No public service bulletins on the news. Just me and my trusty skills to navigate safely through life.

I get this thread is almost 5 years old, but I was reading along and caught wind of this attitude. Whoever you are JBREW, if you see this and haven't already been told so, get over yourself. Your comments don't offer anything that helps OP (or anybody else), and any attempt to 'advise' for 'safety concerns' just comes off as you sounding like an entitled a**hole, regardless of whatever experience you might actually have under your belt. You did nothing to actually address OP's issue and I personally gained absolutely zero knowledge from what you had to say. I sincerely hope that since this, you have focused more on listening rather than keyslamming unsolicited moral judgment, and frankly, very ignorant advice. I'm sure you're super smart, but it's not always about what you know. If what you have to say is THAT important, perhaps there's a better way to go about it.

Siggie, if you're still following, I just want you to know that your diag and bypass writeup has been gold for me. I know that I'm not the only one that got something constructive from this. Thank you for taking the time to document your experiences and how you overcame them.

4.5 yr old thread....

The right way.

http://www.f150hub.com/maintenance/f...placement.html

If you cant fix a vehicle properly....you probably shouldnt have a vehicle. Thats how they turn into a POS.....one problem at a time.....while others vehicles of same age are nearly like new, well maintained.

Old vehicles arent free to drive. But lots of people mistakenly think they are. Usually 17yo high school students with no money, that want a truck. If theres anything with a bastardized fix......i have no interest in buying vehicle.......its a symptom of a poorly maintained vehicle by someone without the money to do it right.

Older vehicles can be....cheaper to drive.....if you do repairs yourself. But you need $ for repairs.

abs issue is not common at all. Used parts are available.

By time vehicle reaches 20 yo, most have been thru several owners.....and 1 was probably a cheap dumbass that did no maintenance, used wrong cheap fluids, etc. The fewer owners.....the better the shape usually.

Maybe he has, in 5 years. Your desire to dig up a five year old comment and lecture somebody to "get over themselves", in your first post, is ironic. Who are you?
