Inappropriate code, temp sensor question...
Hi All!
I have what feels like a very unusual problem with my '99 F-150, but perhaps one of you has seen it before. It has the 4.6L V-8.
I recently noticed that my "service engine soon" warning light was on, and scanning the dashboard, I also noted that the temp guage was bottomed out. The truck was NOT over heating, and at the time I was traveling on the NYS thruway at about 75 MPH for over an hour. with no ill performance issues.
I stopped immediately, and using the OBD reader that lives in the truck, pulled a " lack of coolant" or "insufficient coolant" code. I went about 1 mile to the next rest area and purchased a gallon of 50/50 coolant, opened the hood, and "SURPRISE!" there was PLENTY of coolant in the reservoir.
Made it home without launching the engine from it's mounts, and now I am trying to diagnose the situation.
Any ideas?
As usual, any and all responses will be GREATLY appreciated!!
Frank
