ignition locked up
Ive got a 1997 f150 wnt out this morning to start it up and the ignition was locked up, its done this to me before but after a ton of jiggling the ignition it freed up and let me start it but that didnt work this time. the stupid door chime still works so it knows the key is in there. could i just replace the igniton with a new one? or what could it be?
Yes, most likely needs a new ignition tumbler. You sometimes can unstick them by inserting the key and give a little tap with a small hammer on the end of the key and turn at the same time. Sometimes the black plastic around the key is a problem. If you know your getting a new tumbler you can snap that off with a pliers. All will come with the ignition tumbler. You will have to get it to the run position to remove it from the column. There is a little button on the tumbler which releases it from the column, must be in the run position. If you can't get it to turn, it will have to be drilled out! Not much fun. Try a hammer and pliers!
