Default |Idler and Pitman|

Hey guys,

Just saw that my idler arm is loose and i did call for the parts and the guys told me that there is two bolt pattern. Wich one goes on our gen ? (2002 5.4)

And, i tought the idler and pitman were actually one pièces but it is not ?
I am just wondering how it is made ? i guess the idler comes with a ball joint and i need to press it in the pitman ?

I am confused right now..

Thanks for the help !

The pitman arm is on the drivers side coming off the steering box to the tie rod, the idler arm is on the passenger side bolted to the frame and tie rod. They are two desperate things, and you have to measure for yourself on the idler arm, I think mine was 2.5" between bolt holes

Okay thanks, wasn't sure, the guy told me the idler arm as two seperate parts.. I guess he didn't know much more than me about my truck..

The bolt pattern is center to center ?

Thanks for the help !

I believe center to center. its either going to be a 3.43" gap or 2.48" so whatevers closest to your measurment

Mine is closest to 2.5 so i guess it is 2.48.

Both ball joint on this parts are loose and i'm a bit scared to drive it...

I guess i won't need the ''fork'' tool to remove them ?

Definitely. My idler arm was a royal pain in the *** to separate from tie rod. Couldn't have done it without the fork. Can't say much for the pitman since a shop replaced mine when I broke the steering box.

Replaced my idler arm today, didnt even need the fork, but i bought it anyway since its a cheap useful tool.

But now, i need some sway bar bushing, do you know what is the size of the sway bar ? I measured 30mm but kind of hard to tell..

Lucky. I had to beat on that pickle fork like no other to bust it loose, then hit the nut with a hammer while wedging in there.

No clue about the sway bar though. Sorry
