idler arm?? HELP
Okay so when I went to get an oil change and my vehicle inspected, the mechanics showed me that all my ball joints are out need to be replaced along with my front shocks. Also that my steering Idler Arm is out. The mechanic said the reason for my idler arm going out was because of my "over sized," tires that put too much stress on the arm and driving it hard. I measured my idler arm and figured out it is a 2.48 arm. I do quit a bit of trail riding every now and then. My truck just hit 103,000 miles today and the idler arm and all ball joints were original so were the shocks. I've been looking into it, I purchased a welded universal pro comp idler arm brace to help support my idler arm when I get it fixed. Is there a chance I can just replace the bushings and throw on the brace and it will work fine? Ive heard alot about upgrading your stock arm with brass or bronze bushings and washers while throwing a nice brace or bracket on to hold it in place. I want the cheapest but the best outcome, Id rather upgraded it then buy a $90 motorcraft full arm with plastic or rubber bushings.Ive heard these arms are a struggle for all us 4wheel guys.
