idk if my cats are bad
Hey guys, this question has probably been asked a million times, but I was wondering if i could get a 2nd opinion. Back when i first got my truck(2000 F150 w/ 4.2 V6) in March or so, it had the iconic pcv leak under the intake. I fixed that problem a while ago, but before i did it was badly mis-firing and dieing at idle. I was wondering if my cats are messed up because of it, because when I took the muffler off to replace it there was black soot piled up in it. After putting a glasspack on it, I regained some power but i'm seeing black soot shoot out of it(enough to make my chrome tip black). If anyone could shed somelight that would be greatly appreciated.

If I had to guess, you are burning oil by your description.
Did you put a Motorcraft PCV valve in it? Off brands let oil by, and will make the motor blow smoke.

Does it rattle OK? Possibly stuck open?
They are about 20-25 dollars on Amazon for a Motorcraft with a new tube. Might be worth getting a new one to you?

I just took my truck on a 165 mile trip, and it felt like the longer I drove it the less power I had. Then after letting it sit for 30 min I started up to drive it again and it felt like the tranny was lurching, but i think it was a small miss-fire in one of the cylinders. But I still went 165miles on half a tank.
