Default I need some feedback

I have a 92 f150 2Wd stnd w/302, just purchased, and I have some changes I would like to make, any input would be appreciated. I want to set the truck up for towing, so I thought of adding a transfer case to give me a high and low range and the keep the 3.08 rear but add a non slip for better traction. I think that the 3.08 would be fine if I have the hi low option of a transfer case. Thanks for your response. Ed

Hi Ed,
The folks here have 97-2003 trucks so you would get better advice on the older truck section since those trucks are totally different (the pre-97 engines are a lot better).

The low range in the transfer case would be way to low to be of any practical use on the hiway for towing. if you have a standerd trans with a granney gear it will get you going just fine auto trans no problem just dont try to tow in overdrive. Bubbabud 2011 XLT SC ecoboost standerd tow package with 3.15 gears

I don't want the low for the highway, I live in a hilly part of CT. It started with a renovation project on the house and I decided that I needed a trailer for gravel and such but only had a Honda pilot, with a problematic tranny to tow with. Any way I had over three tons of gravel, stopped on an incline and it was all the Honda could do to get it moving. The Honda has since then had the transmission rebuilt and I bought the F150 to tow for those situations, low range power and backing up, what do you think, is that good approach?

I dont know what your budget is but you cheapest way is just to regear the rearend if you have the coins consider a gear vender over/under drive unit if you are compairing the f150 to a honda try it with what you have you may not have to do anything. if you already have a transfer case and all the parts to adapt it to your transmision and the drive shaft..then go for it.
