I guess that would work but I prefer a controller. They don't need to run all the time though, mine even cut off at highway speeds

I saw them on some website. I think they about $200. Same concept...pulling less from the motor to save horses and mpgs.

Do you think a 40 amp relay on the low speed will be enough? Using the proper size wire.

Can't tell yah exactly right now. But I can tell you that I'm using a 40amp relay to wire a fan on my other truck this week. I believe it should work, that's why I'm going that route on my 89'. I don't exactly remember the power the fans draw but im pretty sure it's less than 40A
