Default How big a tire

I have a 97 supercab 4x4 4.6L with 235/70/r16's. I want to go to a bigger tire, but not sure how big I can go without a lift of any kind. I know I can go to a 255/70/r16 but was looking at 265/75/r16 or bigger. Anyone have any advice?

i went from the same size you have now a few weeks ago to 265/75r16 no doubt i could have gone 285/75r16 with a tiny bit of trimming to plastic on the bottom of the front bumper. im in iowa city about once a month i can show you sometime if you would like or if your ever in the des moines area get ahold of me

when my '03 was stock i ran a set of 285/75/16 bfg mud terrains on 16x8 m/t classic 2's. There is plenty of room, although as mentioned above you will probably need to do some slight trimming of the lower plastic valance as to avoid contact in a full turn. The 97 is a different front bumper, but on my '03 i removed the lower 2 inch black plastic strip from the lower valance, then drew a few different lines in pencil till i got it figured out, trimmed off what i wanted with a dremel cut off tool, filed the edge and hit it with sandpaper one time and you wouldn't know it's been trimmed unless you compare to a stock'er. Now that i have a 6" lift, it provides plenty of breathing room for my 35's.
