Default Hopping

When I'm making a right or left turn from a stop, I feel a slight hopping in my rear end. It smooths out after I complete my turn. I don't feel it at all when I drive straight from a stop. I have a 01 5.4 4x4 with 285/75R17's. Any ideas?

Inspect your U Joints and also check your U Bolts to make sure there right.

If you have a limited slip rear axle it could be the clutch packs. Change the gear oil, and add some friction modifier from Ford.

My thought exactly. If you have an LS differential it may need routine maintenance in the way of a lube change. If you do change the gear lube make sure you fully read the bottle of lube you buy because many brands include the friction modifier in the oil.

If the problem persists after a gear oil change, and providing it is an LS diff. You probably have clutches in your differential that are sticking and not functioning properly when you go around corners. The fix for that is a simple differential rebuild kit.
