Hi,
I have a 2001 f150 lariat with a 5.4 four wheel drive. Just bought a larger trailer so trying to hook up off brand brake controller. All the info I found showed I could just buy an adapter and plug into the controller and the gray receptacle under the driver's side by the hood latch.
Wiring did not match so I moved the pins in the adapter to match the existing colors.
Long story short no.power to controller. (Shows battery connections as black and white, red as stop light/brake pedal and blue going back to brakes). All fuses and relays are installed and good.
A couple of pics of connector and also what is the small green wire? Connector under dash connects to data port housing
You are right about location of plug. I was just being general. Weird thing is, I have power all the time to red wire (which is supposed to go to brake light). Not knowing the right terminology I did put a test light to the brake switch. Had two reds coming out of it, one is hot all the time and the other only comes on when pedal is pushed.
I am thinking about splicing into the switched wire (not the always hot one) and wondering if I just have some goofy wiring. If that works I can splice into the blue wire (trailer brake) and then just run from the battery with a 30 amp inline on hot side. Opinion on that workaround?
The controller is brand new out of the box. Seems like in order for it to function all the wires might need to be hooked up. Should I just hook up battery pos and neg and see if it powers up?
