Default High Speed Vibration. I FOUND IT!!!!

My 2001 F150, XLT Supercab 4.6 manual had a vibration problem.
Since others might experience this, I though I'd share my good results.

Original Problem: High Speed Vibration, specifically at highway speed greater than 45 and up. Mostly pronounced when I got going on the highway after 15 miles or so.

Tried new tires, no joy.
Tried new shocks, better ride, but not the solution
Tried new plugs, No real joy.
Tried rebalancing, better, but not the solution.

Then, with the help of a good technician, we found the U Joint in the rear of shaft was rusted, and not working as it should.

Bolted on a new one, and finally I have that solid square platform under my butt. Rides solidly with predictable handling, and no undue vibration. Yes, the manual stick shift shakes a bit, but the wheel and seat and entire truck are smooth. The kind of smooth that invites you to drive from Boston to California, then, up the Pacific Coastline, then back through Canada.

P/M me if you need any help on this. I know how frustrating it can be.

Glad you were able to figure it out man. I know how frustrating the nagging things are.

Update: I got most of the shuddering as I mentioned above. But as fate would have it, I had a gear shift and certain shudder between 45 and 65, but I could accelerate out of it. Or slow it down, but it was bugging me again.

Well, I am vindicated again!! I originally had put 2 new tires on, and kept the existing Cooper Discoverers. The Coopers were brand new, but awhile back. The truck had been sitting for 5 months. Well, I "thought" that new tires with the highly respected Cooper Discoverers H/T (10/32) must be fine.

Shazzam. I took a wild chance, and just put on replaced the Discoverers with brand spanking new tires. Now the gear shift, NOTHING vibes, hums, shudders. I have a complete square box platform underneath my butt at all speeds...7.24.365! Anyday, Anytime. Man, I feel like I want to drive to Florida and check out the fine baberaham lincolns and boats!

I share this dramatic news because, I "thought" new tires could NO WAY be a problem. Well, my wheels and tires were the main cause of my last set of vibes.
Shake N Bake, I am happier than a born again christian.

My truck literally feels brand new on account of New Shocks, New U joints, New Plugs, New Fluids everywhere.

My old 2000 is such a real fine truck, I feel like I am somewhat clever. Why? Because I paid 2 grand for a low mileage, one owner truck that came with ALL new brake lines, and front end bushings. I have no play in the wheels. Then, I have a buddy that paid 40 grand plus 3 K a year insurance, 700 bucks excise, over 2 grand of Massachusetts Sales Tax. And another 5 grand in Tuning. And my 5 speed V8 keeps up with his 6 cyclinder anyway of the week at 55K thousand less of out of pocket cash! Na, NA NA...NA, NA, NA, hey, hey hey, good bye.

Lights OUt,
The Jackster

I’ve been chasing a vibration issue for two months now. I’m thinking it’s a combination of U joints, pinion bearing, and slip yolk. I started getting a rhythmic squeak noise last week as well. It only happens from a dead stop, and only lasts for 10 seconds. Makes me think it’s something on one end or both ends of drive shaft.

it's usually the one on the very end too, right next to pinion. I wonder if a truck sits up and the grease drains out of the top cap, solidifies slightly and can't work it's way back into place.
