Yours have halogen projector housings. If you read the link I provided above it explains how light is produced differently between a halogen bulb and HID bulb, and the housings are designed differently for each one, they are not interchangable. It is a matter of physical optic design and the way the light is produced in each type of bulb.
While HID bulbs in a halogen projector housing may look "better" than a HID bulb in a non projector halogen housing, you still have less light output and more glare.

A retrofit uses a projector housing with optics (lens, reflector, cut off shield etc) designed for HID bulbs and the unique way the light is produced.
Actually, you can. The Retrofit Source offers replacement projectors for spyder headlights that will allow you to properly use HIDs. So you keep the headlights, but just have better lighting.
