Help with a weird problem
I have a "98 f150 and developed a problem on a recent road trip. the door ajar light would stay on for anywhere from a few minutes to maybe 10 minutes along with interior lights, and the door auto lock would not happen as I put the truck into drive, but would just decide to lock whenever the planets lined up. one night, the interior light would not go off until I hit the FOB panic button on and off. I took it to a dealer and they replaced the drivers side door switch, even though both doors make the problem happen (the old though parts at the problem and charge the customer way of trouble shooting). the issue did go away for half a day, but I don't want to feed the dealer more money for this kind of troubleshooting.
to make it worse, it's intermittent.... sometimes everything works as it's supposed to, and then it doesn't. is there a relay that controls all these functions? i'll just swap it out myself....

on my last fishing trip, that happened to me too. but the light would stay on and i would slam the door and nothing happend, so i just took out the bulb so i could drive home this was like 4 in the morning
I was going to remove my bulbs as well, but I saw that the truck has a relay that shuts everything off after 40 minutes to save the battery. it's weird because sometimes everything functions as advertised, but sometimes it doesn't. right now, interior lights and door ajar go off after a few minutes, so I guess i'll keep on trucking! I was hoping for a simple relay replacement, but probably not that lucky!
