Help Starter wont disengage

Default Help Starter wont disengage

Here is the problem,

I start my truck up it starts, it was having problems put on new starter solonoid, to fix the problem put wires on backwords first time, see starter smoking turn off truck, put wires on right time this time, Start truck here odd noise, turn truck off starter is engaging and wont turn off until i pulled the cables off the battery how should i go at this. Also not smoking anymore.

You most likely blew the diode in the solenoid, which can cause you description. You'll most likely have to replace the solenoid. Sorry.

Yes diodes are very sensitive to being put on backwards

i installed a new solenoid and the problem still occurs

Battery is low. Charge or replace it. I have experienced the same thing. Sounds *** backwards but that's what fixed it.

I have seen this a few times. check the ignition switch seem to be the problem on 4 f150s I had to repair with this problem

There is a pink or orange(I think) wire going to the relay/solenoid on the top passengerside firewall, Its the excite wire. Unhook that little wire and see if it still does it.

If it still does it, that is bad.

If it quits, it could be a number of things.

Ignition switch could be bad, Its fairly easy to change and pretty cheap.

My 02 f150 did this and it turned out to be a bad fuse panel and GEM module. Are you having any other issues? The windshields leak on these f150's and they leak into the fuse panel and GEM module.

yeah the fuse boxes and gems are really common, That's why I have a stockpile of good fuseboxes and gem modules in my shop LOL

Haha, Yep! Mine has a modded GEM and Fuse panel now! Its got a rain guttter, sealer...And new windshield and seal lol
