Default Help on 4.6L engine

Hello All

I am new to this site and would like to find out info on my 1998 F-150 4X4 (4.6L V8)

Does anyone have any info regarding parts compatibility between the 4.6L V8 found in the F-150 and other 4.6L V8 engines such as the Mustang or the police issue found in the crown victoria. Is there any parts I could swap to increase power while saving a few dollars in the process. For example can I use the intake, throttle body or injectors from a Mustang HO or Crown Vic interceptor?
Or is there any parts which can offer me more performance for my bone stock 4.6L?

Hi Doug,

What are you trying to gain?
Where do you feel your truck is lacking?
Do you have any end goals?

I would ideally like to have more performance for the lowest cost , i have a boat and camper and would like to be able to haul both and not one or the other lol
My old truck has over 400k and i have a second parts truck which i will be pulling the 4.6L out of to rebuild and if possible i would like to make some upgrades before i stuff it into my old truck

Quoting another member here who said '4.6L is a tough turd to polish'.

There is no secret formula to get more HP out of a 4.6L for cheap. Get up to date on maintenance, that's the best and most effective advice I can give. Maybe a nice intake, programmer, and exhaust if you are willing to spend $1500 on an extra 15 horsepower.

You can move the HP and TQ curves by changing various components, but the engine is pretty well optimized by Ford engineers just the way it is.
