your first question is yes you can and its relatively inexpensive. all they do is drop the spindle that your front wheels are mounted on and then raise the rear and you have a 4x4 look without the actual cost of 4 wheel drive. second question i have no clue.

fabtech and pro comp both make a nice 3" spindle kit for the 2wd's and its about 7-800 bucks i believe. Pretty easy install, just need an alignment (as always) when finished. Otherwise to go cheaper you'll have to (gulp) body lift, or get a leveling kit, neither of which are really much good for your truck. A friend of mine had a 2001 2wd, and we did the 3" pro comp kit, 16x8 wheels with 285/75R16 (33x10.50) tires. It looked like a 4wd, had a real nice level stance, and the 285's completed the look perfectly. Any bigger than that and its time for gears and bad gas mileage. Not that those are necessarily bad things........

As far as gears, Im guessing you have 8.8 rear diff with 3.55 gears. Im not sure if things changed, probably not but as far as oil, My tag on the cover said when you change the oil to put back in 75w 140 synthetic. If you go with mobil 1 or amsoil, your looking at about 17 bucks a bottle, or royal purple for about 12. Fill to the plug and you should be topped off. You would be safe if you buy 3 quarts of it.

I was wrong sorry....you can use 80w 90 if you have the 8.8. and im sure its a lot cheaper. not sure still if you have that or not. and you may need to put some friction modifier in too.

if it is LS, you better make sure that you out the friction modifier in. i am right now fighting with ken towerys about them not putting friction modifier when i had my diff serviced and it has now caused alot of vibration to come from the rear and has possibly worn out my clutches.
