This is the one I bought and have on my truck. So damn nice now being able to not have to drop or struggle with bringing it down. Now lifting it up is a different story. Still heavy. This one helps me because if I'm carrying something and need to open it I can pull it and let it ease down. http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B001DB...Z+Lift+Support

Hit the gym!

Never have I ever heard someone complain about tailgate weight. Seems there are much better things to complain about.

To be honest... I'm not a fan of the tailgate weight either. But it is pretty far down my complaint list. Haha.

I'm just curious, it seems like every other tailgate is half the weight and I'm wondering why. Again, at no point did I complain about it being too heavy, just that it is really heavy compared to other tailgates.

I dislike how when you open it (especially when you're carrying something), that it drops like a boulder. Feels as if it is gunna rip the cables right off the truck and send the tailgate onto your feet. Makes the whole truck bounce 2 inches.

Gunna be going through suspension bushings here before too long, new shocks, etc. I'll take a look at the tailgate today, but it does move freely and drops with ease. No problem latching it closed either, it's just like it's made of lead compared to many others.
Oh if you're just worried about it dropping, just get this...

$30 and 10 minute install. Just did it to my truck and it works beautifully. Dee Zee is like the go to for Tailgate Assists

All the new truck gate have a helper spring inside them. I have 2012 step gate on my 97 and and can tell from physical weight on a scale its close to 100lbs heavier. But its 10x easier to close because of the lift spring in the gate.

Ah, maybe that's it... Cause I'm not seeing any real difference with the tail gates and I'm baffled at how light they seem on some trucks...
