Question heater problem

So I have read through the posts and didn't find any with my particular problem.

I have a 2002 f150 lariat fx4 It has the digital climate control. the issue I'm having is the damn thing wont turn off. now if i press the off button it turns off no problem, fan control *** works and I can dial down the fan manually. I'f i turn the temp down so I'm running ac, no problem it goes cold really cold, and keeps getting colder till I turn it off. same thing when i turn the heat on, set the temp to be 70 or so and the cab will heat up to over 100 unless I turn the heater off manually.

Has anyone else had this problem?
is there a fix?
lastly where is the in cab thermostat located for the climate control?

sorry if this is a repost,

About the best I can find is that the sensor may (underline may as I haven't been able to verify) be behind the stereo console in the dash. I can find the cabin air sensor on RockAuto.com for about 20$ but can't find a better location description.

Edit: I suspect that the cabin air temperature sensor is failing but again I'm not 100% positive where it's at.

Does your display show the correct in-cab temperature?

If so its not the air temp sensor.....

If your blend door didnt work...youd get that.
But its erratic usually.

There are orings that go bad in the eatc, that control it. Easy fix. May or may not be it, but you can google ford eatc repair, vids on youtube.

mbb thx for the reply, I read a lot about the blend door issue, I'm just not sure that's my issue here, the reason being is that I get both hot and cold air. Also i can hear it move when i change air temperature, ad when i change vent exits dash/floor/etc.

as for an in-cab temp display i don't have one, or i don't seam to, I can get an outside temperature display, but it doesn't seam to have an option for in cab or if it dose there is nothing displaying. the overhead display is only a compass, I fixed that at first thinking the issue was tied to that, but no dice. up side i have a compass now, lol.

Aragorn, thank you for your reply as well, it gives me a direction to focus on, if i can find the sensor i can pull it and do some testing on it.

This has me wondering now, If the previous owner replaced the overhead display with a different unit, one without the in cab air sensor, or temperature display, would that cause this problem?
What's the chances that the heater is tied to a chip-set in that unit.
