So my 2000 F150 heater is not blowing any hot air at all out of it. My buddys and I are thinking its the heater core. But have not done anything to troubleshoot. although the two hoses going into the cab one is Hot and the other is cold. ANy way of finding out what is wrong with heater?

are you getting any odor from it? are you losing coolant? it could be plugged up or it could be leaking iv never un plugged one so i dont really know how to flush it out but im sure somebody here has. hope that helps alittle good luck

 

I can't remember if it goes straight from the block or from the radiator to the heater core. Heater cores will get clogged up due to not flushing the system. If you have no hot air after the engine is warm then I believe it's safe to say you need to replace it. On this truck it's not the easiest, but you can do it yourself.

 

Well just to make sure before I take the dash apart. How do I flush the system?

 

Drop all the coolant from the drain **** at the radiator, now heres what i did. I bought a bottle of cascade liquid diswashing detergent(not crystals) add a bottle to your degas bottle, add water to the system to get back to the full mark, drive it around a couple days, drain it, repeat the cycle, and then see if it unclogs the core. If its fixed then flush the system reall good again with straight water and then add your coolant back to it. Heater core doesnt sound bad if its not leaking or you dont smell antifreeze. Could also be a clogged bottom heater core hose. Good luck and hope this helps. Im going to be starting a thread soon about the overheating issues i had!

 

Dont drop the dash until youve tried this first, heater cores a pita!!!

 

Go to Napa and buy their Coolant Flush. It's made by Mac and is pretty good.
